Learning from "Oompa Loompa"
I think all of us must have seen the "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" film or have read the book (by Roald Dahl). It is an excellent movie to watch with kids! In the movie the "Oompa Loompa" songs are quite funny. The song was stuck in mind for a long time ...
My very young nephews and nieces have been visiting us every summer for last three years. To make it fun, along with various activities like pillow fighting, tell funny stories to building caves out of chairs and bed-sheets, we started making funny 'oompa loompa" songs and now it has become a habit to create a new 'Oompa Loompa" song together during each visit. It is all gibberish but it is fun. The song starts like:
"Oompa loompa doompety doo
I've got another puzzle for you
Oompa loompa doompety dee
If you are wise you'll listen to me"
But we do a slight modification ..
"Oompa Loompa doom-pa-dee-do
I got a question for you
Oompa Loompa doom-pa-dee-do
(new lines)"
Now I don't want give you our secret but gibberish lines end up with things like "banana-slug-ice cream" or "jello- mellow-yellow" or "durkey". We try to make up the oompa-loompa song while driving and it has become part of our bonding. The part which make me exciting is, the moment they come to our house, they start asking "When are going to create a new "oompa-loompa" song?"
These days, in most gatherings, we talk about recent election and it can be intense, the "Oompa-Loompa" song creation is refreshing...
As Willie Wonka said, "If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it. Want to change the world? There’s nothing to it."
The paradise is here and now .. have fun with a "oompa-loompa" song.
